Near the summit of Kumo Mountain in South Korea. Looking from the bottom we said there was no way that we would hike up this moutnain. but toget the picture of the Buddha carved stone we had to. When we passed this point we were almost in disbelief as to how high we had gone. Unlike many other hikes, this mountain didn't have a lot of inclined trails, rather it was comprised mostly of rock steps making most of the climb a near vertical ascent. As we continued the hike we kept remarking about how people could have done this with materials to build a temple, and without shoes or with sandals. The carving was made in the middle of the tenth century so this admiration for those that made the climb in centuries past grew.

We also couldn't help but wonder how the war was fought from mountains like this.

Overall a breathtaking view and a memorable experience that we will talk about for years. To be an American stationed with the Air Force in Korea and to be able to get out and see sights like this and the others in my portfolio really make the opportunity to live here that much better!

Incredible image and story. Your photographer's notes add so much to this shot. I found myself trying to imagine the struggle of climbing or even existing in such an environment. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place.

Thank you for the compliment! It is always nice to have people tell you what they like about your work.

I can tell you sitting on that moutain overlooking the city below was almost surreal. I can't wait to go back and sit on the quiet ridgeline and let all of my surroundings disappear.
