Hello from the Critique Club,
I didn't vote on the Stopped Action II challenge so this is the first time I've looked at your entry. From reading the comments left during the challenge, I see they hit most of the major issues with this image, the hot spot from the flash, your choice of background, and the high noise. The hot spot on the edge of the coin could have been reduced if you used a diffuser on your flash or bounced it off the ceiling. A solid colored background (Poster board or heavy card stock) definitely would have helped the coin to stand out more and would have been less distracting than the tabletop used. And there are a couple of good noise reduction softwares available for free if you don't already have one. I might have also tried a square crop for this image, as there isn't any advantage to keeping the negative space on the left for right.

Good job stopping the action, however lighting is a lttle to harsh for my taste. |

maybe it was moving, maybe it's a setup. it's an ok idea, but the execution needs work. what if you had taken a photo of someone actually catching a flipped coin, focused in tightly on their hand about to grab the flipping coin out of mid-air? also, the lighting really takes away from the image--need to experiment and practice with that. |

There is a lot of noise in this image that is not pleasant to look at. |

cor! too much colour noise, purple fringing and grain on this, probably artefacts left over from a high ISO setting... i do sympathise; if indeed it was moving (though, to be honest, it looks like it might be resting on a bit of blu-tak underneath) i would imagine getting a stop motion effect at a macro scale to be a right sod. must say, the table surface is not a good choice for this sort of shot either; a piece of white glossy photo paper would probably improve things... 3. |

Well, as long as there isn't any bubblegum under the coin, you've stopped the action. ;^) Couple of things going on here. 1) DOF is too shallow IMO for this. 2) Image is noisy, especially the top third. 3) Subject is centered and (nothing personal here) a bit ho-hum. The reflection on the table is kind of cool. Good luck. |

Nice shallow DOF, I'd personally like the DOF to capture the lions face as well. The slighly hot spot at the front of the coin is offputting with the bright purple edges. Finally, I'd love to know if this is a coin capture 'mid-spin' or just propped up behind. |

Neat idea! I think a different table surface would help improve this image. |
