 IDPs in Kantale, Sri Lanka. Fighting between government forces and Tamil Tiger rebels have driven them out of their hometown. They now live in a refugee camp and depend on charity for survival. The boy was being bathed in a creek, which is also used by the refugees for washing clothes and as a toilet. He always cries during his baths, as the polluted water stings his eyes.

Shooting: Shot outdoors, by a dirty creek. No reflectors used. No assistant holding up anything. No wife to apply make up to the subjects. No onion to get the boy's eyes to tear.
Processing: Raw conversion, color balance and selective color adjustments, sharpening. Shadows retained, because that's how it is in the real world. No excessive dodging and burning. No oversharpening. This REALLY could be done in basic editing, with the exception of blah blah.

Uniersal image. Nicely done. Only comment: Why not crop out more of the area on the right out to present a nice cozy image focusing on the two eyes?! My personal feeling is that mom's back and shoulder don't add to the image. BOL
