This shot could go either way - good or bad. An Apache Tear is a volcanic rock that is solid black, but is transparant when exposed to very bright light. In this picture, there is a mini-mag flashlight behind the rock.

Legend says when looking at the sun through the rock, you see a tear drop shape. This tear drop is said to be the tears shed when the Apache Indians were forced to jump off an area now called Apache Leap (near Superior, AZ) where these rocks are found.

Cropped, re-sized and added border.

Cool lump of something! Makes me want to investigate it.

This is one of the very few photos I've seen where a border actually compliments the image. Well done. :-)

Some really beautiful shadows and reflections in the rock. It looks almost like gold . You can almost feel the smooth molten textured . The dark background really helps to make the subject pop out of the picture.

Not enough detail. Looks like a gold blob in the middle of a black space. Good attempt with the lighting though.

The glare on the top of the rock is a little distracting, otherwise nice shot, I also like the black and gold border you used on this.

Though to shoot a rock through back lighting, I've tried. It works, but details are lost.
