I gave this shot a six because of what other commenters mentioned - the "depth of focus vs soft focus" issue. However, when I came across this during voting my first thought was "oh my goodness, how GORGEOUS".

My second thought was "here is a shot that someone could make money on". As you said about the backdrop, I probably have indeed seen it before. :-) I think you did a great job enhancing the beauty of the backdrop and making a great photo out of it!

I'm glad you said what you did in the photographer's comments. The lighting is, I feel, very good, and you definitely conveyed a message. Congrats on this beautiful shot.

Shallow depth of field but dead on focus thus not "soft". Nice Shot though - 5

Soft focus does not mean out of focus. Very dark photo.

mmm. somehow apt and relevant given the whole pluto shenanigans. to me, this isn't really an example of soft focus, rather a use of depth of field. there's nothing really soft about the middle groud, and the foreground is just not in focus. i also find this surprisingly static and not that involving, which is odd given the subject matter. white balance might be part of the problem; if you're using elements, go to colour variations and increase the blue and lighten it a little bit; the change i feel is quite dramatic. anyway, i scored this 5.

IMHO this is more the use of depth of field than soft focus but it is an interesting subject
