Taken in during sunset when the Northern Lights were brilliant, and Great Slave Lake was very calm. The conditions allowed for an excellent reflection. Exposure adjusted, sharpen, and resize.

I got lots of comments on the white light. I is actually the moonlight. I agree the post editing should have taken it down, but it was natural not artificial lighting. The exposure increased it's luminocity. Thanks for the great helpful comments

Hi! Hereâs a comment from the Critique Club.

First Impression:
Nice shot. My eyes were drawn to the bright green and then the white âlight.â Back to the green, back to the white before I was able to see the rest of the detail. The white âlightâ really competes for attention.

Composition:
Really nice composition. I like the lines created by the northern lights, the far shore and the beach. Nice boat placement as well.

Subject:
Meets challenge

Technical:
Since this is an advanced editing challenge, I would have toned down the white light and itâs two reflections, (Boat and shore). Make it more identifiable as to what it is, without creating blown white areas. I think that change would really draw out the rest of the detail, the stars and colours.
You could have submitted a larger file. Your 128k, 600 X 400 file limits the view size and detail we see. Try to get to the 150k, 640 X size allowed

Summary:
Congratulations on your best score! Nice to see your scores improving.
Good luck in future challenges

NIce composition here, with the horizon low and the streak of aurora in a nice line. Mood is also very nice.

Very nice, only thing I would have tried (if possible) to avoid is that lamp...

Very nice capture, even getting the reflection of the aurora on the water. Very nice job of getting the stars captured without much motion.

I like this better than the other northern lights shot because it has more context. I can imagine the glow as a magical spell here, maybe from a passing wizard or witch. I also love night shots that incorporate stars. 6.

Sorry I can't seem to see anything in this image? Just a green smudge... maybe I am not getting it?

5: i like the green trail in the sky but generally a bit too dark

I like aurora. Wish I could see them every night. The light is a distraction. Too bad. 5

Oh man. . .you are LUCKY to get to see this! I should mark you down just for the "green with jealousy" factor :) JUST KIDDING!! I am in awe of how pretty this is, and how cool it would be to get to see it. I love the stars you can see in the sky too. Awesome Awesome photo!! I wish there was just a little more light and detail on the boats and the water. . .but then, I just remembered how dark my monitor at work is, so it's probably just my monitor. Then 10 it is! 10 :)
