Luckily the 70-300 4.0-5.6G is a naturally soft lens, haha. This is in the Stanislaus Forest in Northern California, I have a photo of me from this same place in the STDavidson challenge. This is my girlfriend, she's awesome, she actually fell asleep because I was running around the top of Inspiraton Point near Lake Alpine taking photos for so long. I hope you like the photo.
PP:From top two bottom in PSCS2.
Hue/Saturation, selective color, hue/saturation, selective coolr, color balance, selective color, channel mixer, curves, selective color, curves. flattened then neat image and gaussian blur a couple times at different stregths and opacities. selective color, color balance and brightness contrast. finally shadow/highlight layer and save for the web. Most of tose layer was to try and get color in to the sky while using basic editing and not have everything else all off. |

There is no soft focus here. Soft focus has a misty character with the edges softened and bright areas turned like fog. It results of light difusion before the lens. This picture is only using a shallow DOF. |

A lovely scene and I like the placement of the person in the frame. To me this has good use of DOF but it isnt my interpretation of soft focus (MHO) |
