This is a pic of my sweet nephew Dylan. He is really interested in the pond in front of him where ducks are swimming about. He's just so freaking cute!

Critique Club Review:

This picture should have scored higher. Good lighting, great color saturation. Less depth of field, or a little different location, would have helped prevent the hand rail and steps from distracting from the subject. When I cover the steps and hand rail, his face almost jumps out of the picture. When not covered they compete for attention. Otherwise a very good picture. I love that far away look in his eyes. Definetly hard to capture with this age group. Good job!

Nice photo, good focus, nice subject but watch the background. That handrail is very distracting.

Oh what a wonderful pic! I have commented many times in the past to folks, and try to explain that for a photo of a child to do well, it has to be really outstanding, because a stranger just isn't going to have the 'attachment' that the photog does. This should be my prime example of how to make a child photo work! Great intensity and emotion in the eyes and face. Great full frame, offcentered comp. Nice, uncluttered background, yet enough context to set the scene. And the hat is awesome. Totally grabs the viewers attention and demands they take notice, and yet it frames the face and just takes the attention and draws it into the face totally. And, it works well soft to boot, IMO! Great job! I really like this pic, and I sincerely hope the voters can look beyond the basic 'kid' shot prejudice and see the magic in this image. Wowsers!

great shot, nice composition & cute kid! too bad you couldn't reposition the subject or yourself so that the stair rail doesn't interect with the head.
