Finally another image (selfportrait) I'm very happy with. Tried a lot for this challenge, but didn't work out. When I sat in my attic to think about what to do, I saw the foam wrapped around some photo-frames and thought I could do something with it. Shot a lot of images, all pretty nice, but this one really did it.
Lit the image with a softbox to a white background, with a remote controller and my cam on timer.

Big changes in the RAW-editor:
exposure: +0,30
shadows: 13
brightness: 150
contrast: +82

all of this made the image very noisy, but I also think this adds to the atmosphere.

after that in Photoshop:
crop
curves
hue-saturation
brightness/contrast
added border with canvas size.

Leaving safety for reality.

I find it interesting that so many people are so thrown off by the writing... to me it only added an element to the scene. Perhaps because I have a curious tendency, my thought would be what was the entire word... if it had been an entirely distinguishable word, THAT might have thrown me off. I would not change a thing about this submission... except perhaps maybe that it had done better.

I love the happenstance story behind the submission. Thanks for sharing!

Critique Club Review:

An interesting twist to the challenge. I'm surprised this didn't do better in the voting. Too bad this wasn't an advanced editing challenge, you could have cloned out the writing that I and other commenters found a little distracting. Since you couldn't get rid of the writing, perhaps more writing added to the bag might have helped. (Who knows, "Contents 1 human" or something like that.

As it is this is a very creative take on the challenge, and a far cry from a simple back-lit exposure. I like the lighting, the pose, the bag really makes the whole thing work well. The noise in the picture adds to the scifi-horror-mystery atmosphere of the piece. I like the way everything else is eliminated from the piece.

I think the frame may have cost you votes. There is really nothing wrong with this one, but there are voters who hate frames. (They originally were not allowed.) And, while the frame does not detract, it does not add a lot to my eye. Hence it may be the source of some of your 1's and 2's. I can't think of any other reason why anyone would vote low on this picture.

Congratulations on a very creative, and nicely done entry.

Perfect, perfect...the writing did take away from the image just a tad..sort of destroyed my disbelief.

BUT!!!!!

The creativity and wonderful result deserve much better scores. This is a perfect example of great photography not being "DPC Centered"

Dont change a thing..except maybe the writing on the curtain :-D

I think this is fantastic! I hope you don't have the same problems that I have with people not believing a shadow and a sillouette can be one in the same.

It's a little mysterious and a little messy. I like it. The writing stuff on the right is slightly distracting.
