Challenge: Free Study XII (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD for Canon
Location: Le Mont-St-Michel, France
Date: Aug 22, 2006
Aperture: 22
ISO: 200
Shutter: 10 secs
Galleries: Cityscape, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Aug 30, 2006

This is a view of Le Mont-St-Michel in Northern France from a mile or so away, taken at dusk. Double RAW conversion to get full contrast for the sky and separately for the city, dodge & burn, curves, slight desat, crop, save for web.

I didn't have my tripod with me so had to balance the camera on a not-particularly-level fence post (with a few bits of museum gumph to prop it up)

Thanks to alexsaberi for tips.

If that church wasn't so beautiful this would be a very haunting scene with that sky and foreground. Great photo!

It seems so unnatural.

Really cool shot but is a little overprocessed. You can see the clear line along the edge of the building where a different layer is created to expose for the foreground and bring in detail. you could have burned that edge or something to create a smoother transition.

Some outlining issues but I like the cartoony/arty feel.

Striking subject, nice foreground detail. Halo visible around your structure, the sky lacks the texture it probably had--a little too much neat image?

Beautifull pictire, colors are great and so is the sky. Really moody... can we say that?

Very well done, this should get a really good score in the challenge

Something here is a little un-nerving, possibly the sky. I can't put my finger on it.

The sky really brings this photo to life. Great job.

Is this Mont St. Michel? Wonderful place.

I love the mood though the processing done seems to have exagerated the lines between building and sky on the left side. 7

Ooh, very Underworld. it certainly has a very instant visual appeal. the sky is gorgeously dramatic, the dusky ambience very fitting, i love the colour and lighting on the grass in the foreground, and initially, i thought the illumination of the buildings seems really effective. but it becomes obvious that there's been some post photo assistance, and possibly too much dodging; and a mix of dark edged and halo'd surrounds the mound and buildings which is distracting. teething problems aside, this is a superbly dramatic landscape and i like it, 8.

This is one of the better night shots. I love the sky. It has an eerie feeling. Great focus.

Very imposing structure. That there's a house over to the left really shows the scale.

Maybe a bit too much processing on the clouds, you have some halo around the hill. 5

imo there's a bit too much PP, it doesn't look natural enough - sorry just my view

The texture of the clouds is odd - maybe too much noise reduction, otherwise an attractive night shot.

Looks almost fantastical. There is something a little weird seeming with the edges of the hill and the trees on it. They seem just a little darker right before it becomes sky.

A little too "processed" for my own tastes (which is all I can use to judge and vote by).

Lots of haloing on this image, around the outlines of the building in particular.
