I gave this a 10 - just wanted to say I really like the shot and like the fact that even though the butterfly was not "perfect", it is still very beautiful. Great shot! :) |

I was going to suggest color, but I really like it in B&W too! The gradients in the colors are really emphasised in B&W and its different. Why does it all have to be in colour? |

Great shot though I'm wondering why you chose to go b&w? It almost feels lacking since butterflies are so much about color. |

Very nice! Framing is perfect and I love the detail in the wood before it falls off into the DOF. Amazing how powerful B&W can be! |

Very nice indeed. A great idea to show such a colourful insect in B&W - it really brings out the texture of the wings. Top stuff. |

Nice use of B&W, it shows off the gray spectrum well. |

Good use of b&w here, risky when shooting colourful insects. Here it is used to enhance the mood of a butterfly down on it's luck. I like the way the eye is lead to the top-right of the frame, enhancing the idea that the subject is not ready to fly off yet. Effective crop, great textures, good sharpness. 10 |

Nice composition. Good choice for black and white, I think. It serves to bring up the graphic nature of this shot. |

Excellent shot! I like the composition, position in the frame, lighting and clarity. The detail in the wings and body is superb, right down to the antennae. Nice work! :-) |

Beautiful, just beautiful. Excellent DOF, very sharp, fantastic composition and contrast, I love this shot. My only critique would be the dark upper left hand corner is a bit distracting and the frame is a bit too heavy (thick) for my taste. Of course this is just my opinion and doesn't in any way mean I'm correct LOL. :-) |

Nice use of B&W where it must have been tempting to use colour. |

Incredible contrast really makes this a great vivid picture. The beautiful depth of field makes the butterfly come alive. You can almost feel the grain of the wood also. Frame work great with the picture without taking away anything. Shadows and reflections in the wing gives you a sense of texture of them. |

Stunning focus and light...love the idea but think color would of given this more punch. |

unusual choice for B&W which works well to focus on the textures |

Nice capture, at first I was thinking that this picture would look better in color, but the more I look at it the more I like the black and white, I also like the border you've added. |

Using b/w on this photo really brought out the contrast and detail. Compostion, DOF and lighting are right on the money. It looks like he's looking right at you. 10 |

I like the black and white treatment and your frame compliments the shot nicely. . The nail head takes away from the lines of the butterfly. |

Great shot, I especially like the background, the wood is a perfect size element for the background. The nail head puts size in to perspective. 8 |

I can feel the powdery softness from this image! I only wish you could have asked this beautiful creature to take a few steps to avoid the nail..my eye keeps stopping there..however, beautiful image! |
