OK here goes, for the most part I am ignoring the challenge title....
The first thing that hits me in this shot is the blown out parts at the top of the frame and the orange glow in the top right hand corner. I would crop those out immediately allowing the viewer to be drawn to the 'grass' rather than elsewhere.
I love the backlighting but would like to see more detail in the 'head'. The DOF is good as it is blurred enough to not allow any distractions to the main focus.
In comparison with
Obviously this shot is much closer and therefore there is a lot more detail which I like. For me the blades of grass in the background of this shot are distracting but the green tones are good and I think the crop works fairly well.
The two shots, although of a similar subject are very different and both have good and bad points.
Overall I think you have spotted this well and if cropping would have allowed you to stay in the rule of thirds, IMHO this would have helped the shot. |

This is visually pleasing. It's all about shapes of light. I like how we seem to be getting a piece of the sun himself as well. |

Very cool, I love it. That glow is mesmerizing. You found the perfect vantage point and time of day. |

I really like the sillouette of the plant, but it is almost centered in the frame, to fit the rule of thirds it should be closer to the intersection of the lines if the frame was divided into thirds both horizontally and vertically.

I am sorry I guess it is at the intersection of the thirds, I was wrong for once ;) I guess I would have liked to see more in the foreground because of the limited depth of field. I upgraded your score a little too. |

nice! cool contrast of the dark vs the lightness of the focal point. Good Luck! |
