Challenge: Abstract Macro II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D
Lens: Konica Minolta AF 70-210mm f/4.5-5.6 II
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Date: Sep 23, 2006
Aperture: 5.6

Shutter: 1/80 sec
Galleries: Macro, Floral
Date Uploaded: Sep 22, 2006

For this set-up I used the reverse lens macro technique. I reversed my kit lens (18-70mm) on top of my macro lens (70-210). The subject is one tiny blossom (about the size of a Q-tip head) of an Orange Glory plant in my backyard.

The technicals: Nice DOF and composition. You didn't oversaturate the reds and oranges too much which is good because they quickly become so in the digital format. I will bet more than one comment mentioned the blown highlights. Pretty much a no-no since they are large and are close to the main focus of the picture. I might have tried a polarizer.

The feel: Reasonably abstract. The square crop neither helps nor hurts. It probably suffers from being a bit "standard" (too many other shots like it).

The game: Flowers...love em or hate em. If you want to score well with a flower you have to a) shoot in an interesting way (you did that) and b) be PERFECT on technicals. People will devour any shortcoming all the more because it is a flower.

Nice, but image appears to be a bit out of focus.

I like the way that you used the DOF on this shot.

Focal range seems to be slightly too small. Perhaps it is the blurred background which seems to dominate the subject.
