Post Challenge Comments:
(Prior to DQ: 21/388 6.4000)

Last Friday I received a request for validation of my High Contrast photo.
I sent that in right away and had to spend the next 4 days with that icky
"pending" notice on my home page. Since that time I did the research
I should have done before submitting the photo and realized my use of PS
"diffuse glow" was a problem. I apologize for not doing my homework on this before submitting the photo and please know that I was not trying in any way to "sneak one through". I truly thought that since it wasn't selective editing and it affected the entire image that t was okay.

I am trying to get a really big hole dug in the back yard and shall take up residence there as I attempt to hide in shame until this blows over.

Once again, I sincerely apologize for this and thank you to all for your comments.

thanks for being so honest in your comments above...I was really sorry to see this dqd as it's a great image...my only thoughts is that it may have not suited a high contrast challenge, but it seems your position at 21st proved me wrong...good luck for the future...and I hope you don't stay in that big hole for too long :-)

The 'Diffuse Glow' effect is subtle enough, and probably alters the image less than sharpening. To me, the DQ takes nothing away, neither ranking nor honour. Like everyone else, I respect the rules for the purpose they serve. Here their interpretation interferes with my perception of what's natural and appropriate.

The border distracts me....this kind of emotion is more raw that the whole image should seem so.

Classic example IMO. Great job of controlling the light on her hair, and yet maintaining strong shadow areas. Top of my list so far.

while it is a nice portrait with great lighting...is it high contrast in the true sense of high contrast? perhaps not
