Greeting from the Critique Club!

What a wonderful image! I think this has great bones and I think it fit perfectly with the challenge topic. The duotone works very well here - gives the image a sense of timelessness. I think the lighting works very well to enhance the image and the focus is dead on.

But (there's always a but, right?) I think there are a couple of things working against this image that could be easily fixed in post processing (I work with the image I have) and may have gotten you a slightly higher score (if that matters to you). The background, while interesting, detracts from the overall feel of the image. You could easily blur it into a mottled background which would work very well with the feel of the image. The crop is unbalanced. This often works but for this image I feel it distracts. There is no purpose in the lack of balance and it does nothing for the image. I tried a square crop as suggested by a commentor but that didn't work for me - it left her no elbow room. The midtones are just a tad muddy. A very, very slight curve only at the mid point might make a difference.

Anyway, I love this image - simple truth. This is the way it is. Wonderful that way. You've done an excellent job portraying a housewife in an artistic, thoughful manner. The focus is great and the lighting well done.

The composition is so very interesting! My 2nd 10 for the challenge... good luck!

ha ha ha. I wonder if this would be more effective if she were in a kitchen setting, or perhaps not so close to the wall, so that the texture of it were more blurred. Still a good idea and I love the curl of the peel falling into the basket.

I really like this idea and the black and white treatment. The only thing that is a little bit off in my mind is that the apron looks too new, at least it doesn't really look like it belongs to the person wearing it. I might be wrong, but that is the feeling I get when I look at the picture. Still a very good picture and a good idea.

had another look, this one although not technically perfect probably fits
the challenge better than the other. it means something. bump

This is the sort of thing I hoped to see in this challenge. The missing face has purpose and not just to meet the challenge. When I look at this I see a thousand faces that make up this portrait of a housewife. Gets a 10 from me.

great texture and sense of depth, plus a good fulfillment of the challenge. Instead of her face, show us what she *does*. 9

There is something playfully subversive about this image: the static pose, the way the subject is sort of gratuitously ediited out of the photo, the static, but not quite perfectly symmetrical composition - that I really like.

Quite frankly, the first thought that came to mind when I saw this image is "Cook" or "Maid". I think it's the apron and the upright (prim) sitting position. Peeling potatos in our household is much messier than this and usually done at the sink. :D

All that aside, the image is well done with a nice range of tones. I'd have been tempted to square crop this or move the subject to center as it's nearly centered now.

There's a lot to like in this image and it's nicely emotive.

good idea, but the photo would benefit very much if there is a 1/3 rule on it and the subject is more to the left, i like the duotone !
