Hello from the Critique Club,

As an optically challenged person, I can fully relate to your image and how morning first appears. However, for those that arenĂ¢€™t optically challenged it is hard to relate your image to morning, as everything in the picture looks like it belongs in a spare room. If this image had a more traditional bedroom setting or even a bathroom setting, it would have provided a stronger link to morning for those that don't wear glasses. On the technical side, I think your post processing work is exceptional and your idea was very creative. You just didn't connect your idea to the challenge topic strong enough for the whole population of voters at DPC.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding this critique.

Tim

LOL! Not just a morning thing, but a fun pic nonetheless.

The processing is very nice. I like that the monitor is only clearly visbile through the left lens. The right lens then takes on a sepia tone which doesn't really go with the bright white seen in the left lens. Ultimately, the photo does not convey any impression of "Morning" to me as a viewer but the challenge is "what is morning to YOU" so if this is morning, so be it.

Interesting use of your glasses. Did you create the effect using Photoshop or did you focuse the camera through your glasses?

Extremely creative, if only you could have gotten your hand in focus too...

Very cluttered image. Its obvious what the idea is, but the execution let it down.

Thanks for your PM. I thought I'd come back and clarify a little:
When presenting an image to the viewer/voter there are a few basic principles which help the viewer 'see' the image. The camera records everything, but the photographer actually uses selective sight during preperation and setup. This selective sight filters out all extraneous detail, all familiar items, everything which is familiar. The viewer on the otherhand is fresh to the scene and the brain like the camera registers every detail on first sight.

So the photographer has to compensate. It is not sufficient to record the actual, he has to conciously apply the 'junk' filter and remove distraction. This enables the viewer to 'see' the intended scene.

This image suffers from 'overload'. It may be faithful, and exactly what you encounter every morning, but its in 'record' mode not 'see' mode.

Make the life of the viewer simlpe and you will start to achieve what you intend. In your PM you say you want to learn, I hope that helps.

That's really cool! Being a glasses wearer myself, I understand where this picture comes from. Neat concept!
