Love the DoF here. Also like the interpretation of the challenge.

I like the boldness of the color and the sharpness of the foreground, but I don't really get enough "peeling paint" from this (and without that, it's not particularly "exposed") -- the image stands on its own as a beautiful photo better than as a representation of the challenge, in my opinion.

I like the use of selective focus to emphasize the area of contrasting color and loss of gilt paint.

I really like the idea, focus, composition.

I think the nature of the subject is good, the paint peel is in nice sharp focus. I would prefer a closer crop, as the length of gate/fence in the background is distracting with its soft focus. I think the thick white border also distracts a bit, perhaps if it were black and thinner. The lighting is great, gives the piece shine in just the right places. 6

There are some wonderful tones and textures here, but, I wish the ungilded part was not cropped off at the bottom.

Good Points:Nice dof, great angle to shoot from and nice lines, very well composed indeed.
Bad Points:none for the technical stuff. but a bit more enphassis on the actual paint stripping would be more fitting.
Score:7-8

I actually don't see any peeling paint in this shot. all the gold leaf seems to be in pretty good condition. maybe I'm missing something on that. I do like the composition and the depth of field very much, and it's a beautiful subject.

Wonderful Idea and I think it might have worked even better if the missing paint wasn't quite so uniform and you couldn't see the other one just like it on the right. Maybe if it was more head on and you could see the entire knob or whatever it is. Starting with a 5, will be back to check and look again.

Good use of shallow depth of field here to isolate your subject. I don't know if it was possible or not, but recomposing to include the entire burgandy part of this gate part could have been nice. Not knowing what's below that makes it difficult to suggest :)
