Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Wind II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Casio Exilim EX-Z750
Location: auto dealer
Date: Oct 24, 2006
Aperture: f4.8
ISO: auto
Shutter: 1/640sec
Date Uploaded: Oct 25, 2006

Large American flag outside of a car dealership; I was driving by on a windy day and thought it was a good idea to photograph the movement of the flag...decided to remove all background and just show the material of the flag in motion...levels, curves, dodge some of blue area, usm, crop.

Post Challenge: Since the wind was blowing the flag from right to left, I didn't think about flipping the image because it looked fine to me but I sure had a lot of comments about orientation...guess flag protocol isn't one of my strong points..did I say that I love carrying around that little Casio camera, plus it's metal and has had some hard impacts but keeps on running.

A very good flag photograph. Wind is depicted very well and I like the tight crop. Good luck in the challenge 7

This is a nice photo. The focus is sharp, the colors are brilliant. It meets the challenge appropriately. There were a lot of flags submitted in this challenge, thus this photo lacks originality. 6

best of the flag shots as you've cropped this tight and really show movement -- one of my favorites this challenge

It's interesting that you display the union in the upper right, instead of the left - isn't that sign of distress or something? You've captured nice detail in the folds.

Flipping the image would make it look more natural, nice colors but I have seen this so many times.

I like it, bold and showing wind. But something in me, perhaps the American, is a bit unsettled by the orientation. (I think I'd like it more with mirror-image or flip processing.)

Crisp and well focused. Seems strange to me to view it right to left. Did you look at it mirrored? Best of luck to you in the challenge.

I love the "crispness" of this and such vivid colors.

Of all the flag shots this is by far the strongest. Sharp focused image with great lines, curves and shadows. I love that it fills the page. That makes it seem all the more powerful and huge. I hope this does well for you. Bumping up to an 8 for now.

I sorta wish this had been flipped horizontally. But great image nonetheless.

I love the level of detail in this one where you can clearly make out the fine ripples in the cloth. Good job. 10.

I really love this... only wish the canvas were flipflopped so the flag was going in the left to right position .. still worthy of a high score 8

excellent...love the close crop...there are many flags in this challenge, but this surpasses them all

Lots of flags this challenge! I like how this flag is the complete image as I really do not care about the flag pole in the others. Colors are vibrant and sharp. Good luck!

I knew there would be lots of flags in this challenge and for the most part they are unremarkable. This one is pretty good. I have to ask though, why wouldn't you do a quick flip to get the proper orientation for the flag?
