Challenge: Wind II (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: 5.5 - 5.9
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Location: Folly Beach, SC
Date: Oct 28, 2006
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/1250
Galleries: Action, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Oct 28, 2006

This was a tricky shot with several outtakes. I had to use a very fast shutter speed, catch the shadow (which required shooting into the sun)and also position the kite flyer (my husband) in the correct position to capture his silhouette. I hope it will do okay.

I really enjoyed this shot. Not sure how I missed it before this time.

This was one of my top two picks for the challenge. Congratulations on an excellent shot - difficult composition and lighting situation and you carried it off very well! And for the record, I love the shadow, and I love how it's not all there.

I think this shot would be improved if the composition allowed for the entire shadow to be seen at the bottom of the frame.

One of my favourites in this challenge, with the shadow of the kite.

Nice idea, wish for a complete shadow, and more saturation might help.

Boys and Kites

The world looks folded in three,
sky on water on white sand.
In the crease run little boys
away from their laughing kites,
the brilliant colors stretched
on a geometric frame.

Capable of flight, prone
to crashes, they are
hard on themselves, rigid, yet
they fall so bravely,
headlong into shore.

A boy running with a frail string
gripped in both hands
knows unhappiness,
feels it bouncing just behind.

I find the position of the shadow too dominant in the image. I'm not sure it wouldn't have been better if you'd cropped it out.

nice shot, if the whole of the shadow was in then it would be so mush better

Great idea, great capture to fulfill that idea. Nicely done on all counts.

Shame that the whole shadow isn't in the photo

I'm not sure that the shadow enhances the photograph. I think a landscape crop eliminating the shadow would be just as effective. Nice colors and exposure.

Hey! This is pretty darn cool. :D I really like the shadow. Good job on finding some unblemished sand! The positioning of the main subjects in your photo work quite well. Good luck in the challenge.

Certainly shows the effects of winds perfectly. Compositionally,
I wonder if it would have been a stronger image without the foreground shadow.

I think the bottom area with the shadow is distracting.. but like the top just fine

Interesting and a very fortunate capture of the shadow. Good luck!
