A bit out of focus and not really very appealing to me, but I suppose this has an audience somewhere. Nice DOF and color if focus was a little crisper. |

Whoops, wrong category! In addition, the focus is too soft/movement too much and the face is a bit blown out on the right side. |

I'll comment as if it were entered in the Portrait in Landscape mode. Certainly an expressive portrait. Looks like the focus was missed, though. Get that left eye in perfect focus, and it would have been better. I wonder what got him into that mood? |

Edited: Having been through the entire pool, I see that you weren't the only one who made this mistake - since it is so clearly a genuine error, it would be nice if he site-councel could just swap the relevant images over to the right pools. |

Looks like this should have been in the portraits challenge. I would have probably only given this a five. You've captured a good moment, but too much of the face is out of focus (including the eyes). |

You have likely gotten a number of these, but I believe this was entered in the wrong challenge and thus is a DNMC entry which generates a score of 1. If it had been entered in the portrait in landscape challenge, it would probably be a 5 IMO. The bokeh is very nice in the back, but the yellowed highlights on the right side of the image are a bit blown out (over exposed).
I'm sure the subject means a lot to you and that is what is important. Photography is so subjective and on portraits, we generally film those that move us. It is hard for someone who knows nothing of the subject to make that connection so it becomes very important that the technical aspects of the photo are right on. I have a lot of post-processing learning ahead of me so please just treat these comments as merely one viewers opinion. |

I bet you'll really be angry and "grrr"ing when you notice this is in the wrong challenge. Don't worry, you weren't the only one.
Seems a little bright on the lighting, might want to try a curves adjustment and see what it does. Also seems a little blurry, not sure if that was part of the "get that camera out of my face" look you were going for. The eyes really pull you in since they have the most color (well other than the pants on the person behind him.) |
