Challenge: Landscape in Portrait Orientation (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 USM
Location: Wheaton, Maryland, USA
Date: Oct 29, 2006
Aperture: 3.2
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/320
Galleries: Landscape, Nature
Date Uploaded: Oct 31, 2006

Shot in RAW at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD.

Converted with LightRoom, pushed color and contrast up.

Post processing: spot retouching, added density to the sky, removed a person from the far shore. Desaturated purple fringing and blurred slightly.

This challenge gives me a new appreciation for how technically difficult it is to produce a truly appealing landscape. Bear_Music, Heida, e301, Bobster all come to mind as outstanding practitioners of the craft.`

I like the effect you were going for. The fact that the cattails are not silhouetted against a less distracting background I think hurts a little.

I like what you are going for here, but given the nice detail in the background, I think the foreground needs to be lit a little. Otherwise the sillouhette gets lost in the background.

As a viewer, I would have preferred to see the opposite of this where the beautiful folliage was in focus and the foreground was out of focus as a silohuette.
