 I wanted to do a Science Bites Back theme. We were at my folks over the weekend and I remembered that my Dad had a rusty old leg trap in the garage that he had found as a kid on the family woodlot. I asked if I could borrow it. He said yes.

I chose the pills and the title Nasty Side Effect since we see so many commercials on TV these days advertising new found medications that have all these weird and nasty side effects, some of which are potentially fatal. The pills are for a stomach condition that flares up now and then. Ironically, they have little to no side effects!

The hardest part of the shot was setting the catch-release on the trap and placing the pill bottle on the pad. I used pliers to place the pill bottle since I was afraid that its weight would trigger the trap and crush my hand.

Shot on a white piece of bristle board sitting on a chair. Shot in a dark room with light coming from above from a 40-WATT desk lamp. Adjusted color, levels and sharpened just a tad to have nice clear reflections in the pills.

Great idea. I would prefer brighter in the foreground but a very good picture with an interresting message.

Nice layout and good use of space. I feel the lighing could have been a bit more intense to add some more punch but still nice job.

The main subject is a bit dark. May be the pills falling from the jar would be more dramatic

This is clever and I like the contrast between the rusty old tech and the immaculate new tech - which is more dangerous by far.
