French Bread

2 Tbls. Yeast
1 C. warm water
1/2 tsp. sugar

Mix the above three ingredients very well until yeast and sugar are dissolved.

5 C. flour
3 tsp. salt

Mix together, then add

1 C. very hot water

Mix together, then add yeast mixture and knead for at least 15 minutes.

Let rise 1 hour. Knead again for 10 minutes and form loaves by dividing the dough into half and rolling each half into an 8 x 12 rectangle. Roll up the rectangle, seal the edges, and place on a cookie sheet to rise. Slash the top slightly, but no more than 1/4 inch. Let rise 30 - 45 minutes, or until bread is twice the size from when you rolled it. While you're waiting for the bread to rise, put a shallow 10 x 20 inch pan on the bottom shelf of the oven with 1 inch of hot water and turn the oven on. Set it at 350 degrees. Once the bread has risen, you may beat 1 egg and brush it on, for a shiny, brown surface when done baking.

When bread has risen, bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until nice and brown. Then eat it quick before guests come!

We made your bread recipe this past weekend. It was lots of fun and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing. Your photo really enticed us to do it!

The background elements were carefully chosen to add interest and contrast, and carefully kept blurred to make the bread the star of this photo. The lighting brings out its textures, both the crust and the inside. Great photo!

Lovely composition. The photo and the lavender really gives a nice traditional feeling. I sense much creativeness in this photot. Shame I cannot vote. I would give 10!

The back of the scene is a bit too blurry for me...

The bread itself is amazing sharp and clear. Did you mean the background to be blurred? This looks good enough to eat!

I love homemade bread. I used to make it with my grandmother all the time. I like this shot, the bread, the rolling pin the picture in the back, the vase and flowers all add to the shot. What hurts it to me is the brown thing in the background, can't really tell what it is and it fights the bread for attention. Maybe if you had put a flour cannister or a recipe box? An 8 from me.

Very nice - A lot of "stuff" is included in the image wothout maiking ot look cluttered. I think keeping the colors either bread colored or blue helped. The blue in the napkin us picked up by the blue in the flowers. I question the rolling pin - you don't need one to make french bread. Focus and DOF work to bring the attention right into the fresh bread flesh. 9

Very nice. With your choice of background items, this screams "home made bread". DOF is perfect. Nice work!

This one is my favorite in this challenge. I love the blurred objects in the background which give this photo a sense of homecooking and nostalgia. The texture that was captured within the bread is terrific. Wonderful colors, focus, and composition. 10

Excellent. I like how you left the baking stoneware, picture and other stuff in the background. Gives it an old Italian feel. Bread broken following the Rule. Nice job!

I especially like the wooden rolling pin and the old family picture. They really make the photo for me. The bread looks awesome, too! Well done.

The sense of tradition, old memories, lavander scent and fragrance of the fresh bread are all well rendered in the picture. I like the focus.

nice. I would have liked to seen it from a higher angle, perhaps, maybe 30-45 degrees. Gets a 9.

Good lighting - I'm not sure, but I think this would look with a deeper DOF, maybe. 8 from me.

Wonderful presentation! I really like the added touch of the oldtime photo in the background. The bread looks fantastic - fresh and ready to eat. The focus is great, lighting is clear and perfect in my opinion. I even like the border for this shot. 10

I would like a bite of this bread right now!! It is perfect color, compostion, lighting.
Please , how about the recipe? The blurred family picture is a nice touch. I might have eliminated the flowers. Excellent photo, tho.

The way you have the composition arranged gives it a feeling of a family recipe for the bread. Gives a feeling of home cooking. The bread looks very soft, fluffy and tasty. I could almost smell it.The touches of color in the background helps gives it some interest.
