Thank you for your comments people.

had other ideas but thiswas the one that made the cut. It isspring down here and fresh new flowers are bursting forth everywhere. This one flower now has several sisters pushing through the fence. And yes it was not a set up shot but was naturally occurring. Had a linear polariser on the camera which is why the wood grain came out so well in an obviously mid afternoon shot.

This is pretty good but just perhaps a little bit too dark. The wood grain is good and flower is okay, but the overall picture just seems like its inside an old outhouse or something. I guess in an outhouse though, you're pretty alone :)

Great photo! I love the colors and the play on the title. Great lighting and focus is nice. I even like the border. Well done. 8

why would a wall flower be growing out of a load of really ugly veneers?

interesting contrast between the background and the subject. border a bit heavy. i think this time around there's too much patterns going on. very 'noisy' if you will. perhaps selective desaturation may have been another option to let the flower shine. love the grain of the fence(?) though. very cool, textile feel.

I love the grain and the texture of the wood. High sun pays off for once! Was the branch naturally poking through the fence or was it staged? Either way, nice work.

great subject but the light isn't the best - too many harsh shadows on the leaves/ flower. Something softer might have enhanced the feel.

I like the contrast in color. I would have personally liked to have seen the flower, the actual pedals, more of center. But other than that, nice image.

I understand what you were trying to go for here, the contrast of the dark, reddish wood to the brightness of the flower, but it's not a very appealing affect. Maybe if you made the wood black and white or sepia tones and left the flower blue it would help but as it is, the textures just overpower the flower for me.

i really enjoy the photograph and it fits well with the catagory.. i think a slight cropping could be done.. a resizing. i think i'd like it better if it were longer lengthwise.. this is just my untrained eye talking though- i don't know much about academic photography.. in my opnion, everyone is entitled their own opinion and the critics that pick apart criteria as though the rules were set in stone ought not begrudge the artist their vision :) sorry.. i went off rambling. basically if you think this is the best it can be, then it's the best it can be ;) kudos.

Lovely colouring on the wood there, added to by the start contrast of the flower. Nice.

I really don't care for this border with this shot at all!
