 This shot was taken in our downstairs hallway. I set the camera on a tripod in our guest bedroom and placed the timer on my camera to 10 sec delay to be able to place myself over a pre-focused mark on the floor.

I used a standard red Xmas spotlight in the stairwell that leads from the main level of the house to the basement at the other end of the hallway. The light was bounced off the carpet and onto the wall, thus backlighting the subject (ME!).

I used the red light to convey anger, rage. The attacker is brazen and uncivilized, using an axe as his weapon of choice. The viewer is stuck in a dark bedroom and trapped… The only option is confronting the approaching attacker.

I had tons of fun shooting this and it was my first attempt at using creative lighting.

Image slightly cropped. I also played with Color Balance, pumping Red for Shadows, Midtones and Highlights.

14th? is there no justice on this site? i had you down for a ten...you and arnit for his rocker pick that came in 3rd...there were picks that placed higher that didn't IMO even touch your sense of lighting...which was the challenge i thought??? you were robbed man. truly great photograph - I just wanted to say thanks for sharing it.

I really liked this shot. It's great with Halloweed coming up and I think it was perfect for this challenge in that the lighting set the mood, powerfully. Great job. Adding it to my favorites.

Fantastic image. The lighting really helps to promote the feeling of rage - great use of color as well. The silhouette, even without an ax, gives a nice feeling of menace. I think this image would've done very well in the dreams/nightmare category too. Definte emotional connection visually. My only issue is the figure doesn't appear very crisp, and I wish he did. I do think the soft focus fits the image well - this is just a personal preference. Great job on the intense image. 10

This submission could also qualify well as a nightmare. :-) A well taken shot. I like your composition and choice of light. The red really adds to the mood and feeling. Very well done!

Sweet! - hope this one medals. My suggestion is for Post Competition: Clone out the fire detector- maybe even the light fixture- to make the ceiling less busy. Just a thought. Really cool pic. Nice work.

Lighting is very creepy. Great Halloween themed shot. I like how the center part of the shot is really bright and gets darker as you get toward the foreground. The silhouette is pretty scary. The use of the red adds to this feeling.

The set up, composition and color is great. I can see his nose and face just enough to see he is looking down. Somehow, that takes away from the mood.

Nice job creating the silhouette. Sometimes in longer exposures, it's hard to conceal the face etc. The red light and Rage title work well together. Very creepy. Good luck!

Nice work, as much as I "Hate" violence and all the gory shots that seem to pop up in all the challenges :(

I would think a little tighter crop would have helped. Worked out nice. Did you use a red lamp or just adjust the color channels?
