i'd call your pic spartan, in a peloponesian butt kicking way....but that would be too much of a pun =`) So I'll just say that I love the composition and the (what appears to be) intentional high iso setting to create a pleasant noise to the pic. Nice work. BTW if you meant hoplite in an athenean way - I meant no disrespect by assuming you meant a spartan hoplite.

I'm not quite sure what this is but I like the image. It reminds me a lot of the work of someone whose name is escaping me right now (it's really driving me crazy). He does/ did images of his own temporary works of art out in a nature landscape setting - such as an egg shape made of stones in the middle of a river. Anyway I can't remember the name and it's driving me nuts. But this kind of reminds me of that. Great composition and I love the grainy gritty texture and the high contrast also.

NOTE: A friend helped jog my memory. It's Andy Goldsworthy I was thinking of.

hmm, a unique interpretation of the challenge and ancient Greek warriors.
What is your intention with regards to the mood your setting?

Interesting rock shot. Looks abstract. Nice shades of black to gray. Looks a little grainy. 6.

I'll be honest and say I'm not following the title, Hoplites were a type of warrior yes? Regardless, I find this a nice powerful photo. The simple lines are great, as is the use of b&w and the organic feel to it. Nice use of space and the lighting really adds a nice drama to it, imo. 9
