This is David. He panhandles in front of Union Station (see Slippys pic in the BW challenge) and let me take his portrait.

This was taken with a 'homemade' lens setup. What I did was get my 5D body cap and then drill a hole in it, then I attached an old film lense to this so it was raised from the sensor with crazy shallow DOF.

Very cool processing - great capture. Did you use a radial blur? How did you accomplish the vignetting? Terrific blue tones really add to the mood of the piece. Well done.

Interesting young Joey.

I would like to see another example of this lens cap lens of yours.

Keep going.

Nice. For playing with old lenses on your 5d, why not get a real adapter? If they're canon FD, they won't focus to infinity on canon EOS, but a lot of other brands will. Jupiter and Industar lenses will look old school, and the ones in M42 mount will work perfectly on a canon with an adapter.

In that case I don't understand - why go through the trouble with the old lens that you described, if almost any "normal" lens would produce a suitable canvas for this image?

You can't get very milky DOF with the (only) lens I have, or this certain look to it.

Wow, I'm very impressed that you got such a great image with a rigged up lens! It does have a cold feel to it. Fantastic result for your experiment. Keep on trying crazy-wierd methods, you've got a knack, mang!
