To make this a better photo I recommend placing the tree to the side. This way it appears the tree is coming out of the gentleman's back. Also a closer crop to get rid of the chair, lamps, coats and books would have been better. |

I love the expression on his face. The lighting is a bit harsh though :( |

Very busy, moving in closer or zooming in tighter would help eliminate the distracting background clutter. |

Cropping this vertically would help to remove the background clutter (chairs, book case, coats, lamps etc and would tend to favour the vertical subjects (people/ xmas tree) |

Would like to read the background story to this shot. It immediately made me feel sad, Christmas without children, huddled up indoors with warm coats and a blanket, getting old........must be my state of mind :-) |
