This little cutie is a Prairie Dog, which I shot at the Palm Beach Zoo. There is a large area there, enclosed by a low wall, where the prairie dogs stay very active building homes and raising their young.
It is the first thing I thought of when they announced the Dirt challenge. I thought I would show a dirt home, but when I got there, this rascal was very busy digging and arranging the dirt with its nose. And voila! a shot that was all about dirt.
There was no selective desat (sometimes Sneezy is wrong), the dirt was just gray. |

Nice shot and very well composed. I saw the other comments about the selective desat but I'm not sure I agree with them. If you had dark browns for the dirt, there may not have been enough contrast between the two. I think it works well the way it is. Good job. |

I love this! It is just adorable. He's definitely dirty and this should have scored much higher, IMO. |

Julianne,
This is so cute, and what a great capture! Every time I try to get close to one of these guys, they run off. Great composition, and the expression on the groundhog's face is excellent. Perfect exposure, too. Talk about a photo that meets the challenge perfectly. Great job! |

this is so cute!:) I think rich brown dirt would only distract from him. I really like it the way it is now! where did you find him?:) I'd love to see one, too! |

Oooh nice catch! I usually have to use a nasty metal trap and broccoli (buggers get in my veggie garden). I didn't vote in dirt, but this would have gotten a high one from me. Congrats on your PB :D |

Neat pic! Selective desat (see DrAchoo's comment)? Didja do that?
Where did you get this shot, anyway? |

So cute, and with a nice amount of dirt on the face to fit the challenge. Made me smile. |

Cute critter, sharp focus, good depth of field. I'm looking at the face and thinking maybe a funnier title would be " Hey! Who threw that dirt ball?" |

I am not adverse to selective desat, but I'm not sure it works here. I would like the see some rich dark browns in the dirt. 5 |
