Taken on the deck of my house, looking out toward the south. This is my dog Piper. She is a 3 year old Welsh Corgi and was amazingly cooperative in having here photo taken!

For the editing, I followed the steps in the November '06 issue of Popular Photography (p 43-44).

Absolutely love this photo! Shows a lot of pooch character :) Very nice!

A like the shot a lot. But would make a few changes.

I would crop the post to the right of the image, first off. It's a bit distracting.

As far as the B&W conversion goes, it is a bit flat. In levels or curves adjustments, you can jack up your whites and blacks a bit and will see a major improvement in the look of the shot.

Very nice portrait. I think a tigher crop might work . Maybe just cropping out the post on the right of the image. You have nice tones in the B/W and nice sharpness. Also a very nice bokeh effect with the background to eliminate distraction.

Very nice portrait. Getting in closer might improve it. The reflections in the eyes make them unclear. I found this to be a problem with my cat portrait as well.

6 - Nice composition and relaxed capture of Piper. Something odd going on in some of the darker areas, almost looks like gamma/contrast/something issues, likely as a result of the toning/pp. The eyes don't seem 'clear' - again could be the pp has accentuated that. Mostly though, Piper's right eye has a white mark over the bottom of it, so trying to fix that in this Advanced Editing Challenge would have helped you.

I've come back to this several times. Nice lighting, composition and DOF. Her face is just a heart breaker. Love it! Good luck.
