The story behind this photo is that she just had an argument with her boyfriend, a pointless and silly argument which made her boyfriend leave the house. As he went out the door she feels guilty and sees how wrong she was in the harsh words she said to him. She knows she has hurt him with what she said. And now she is standing at the window as he is backing out of the drive way in his car. His lights are shining on the window and through the blinds onto her face. But she is too proud to go running out to the car to get him back although she really wants to. The look on her face is one of many emotions all at once. Pride, anger, and sadness.

This is the first shooting with my new Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens.

The model's name is Nicole, 16 years old and a real sweetie :-) I did this shot in a studio with some blinds hanging on two tripods. In the background I hung my black jacket on a clothes rack so that the tripod couldn't be seen in the back corner. I had 3 strobes set up with the main strobe blasting through the blinds, and two stobes on the right, set real low, bouncing off the ceiling.

Post processing: Not cropped at all, this is how it came from the camera. Changed to grayscale per channel mixer, adjusted the levels manually, boosted the blacks a little with a selective color adjustment layer, resized and sharpened.

The iridescent iris grabs me in this one, being the point in the photo that has the most crisp focus and the most contrasty detail. I love the bokeh, the strong lighting, and the fact that the eye in question is in the dead center of the photograph. I must compliment you on finding expressive models and making them look their best.

:) Don't have to be sorry David, anyway this kind of "blinds" effect is used very often. It wasn't my idea either, I just remember seeing a blinds shadow effect once before and thought it looked kewl.

Another amazing shot from kiwiness, congrats! :-) I simply can't shut down my IE, I am sitting on a boring informatics lesson and I am letting this shot have the effect on me. I think everything was said before me - I love the lights and shadows, B&W, her face and the beautyful shine in her eyes are really talking -, I love the shot and the story, too. :-)

A beautiful portrait - the lines of the blind and the light and shadow lines on the model really add interest. The pool of light around her left eye and the highlight within it are particularly good.

Nice photo, but I don't like the title... it forces a translation to it. I would have cropped the top off a little, the eyes in the center makes her seem short.
