Taken in my local woods at sunset. I was intrigued by the way the light was acting as spotlights for various tree features and this broken birch caught my eye. I've had my eye on the tree a long while as a nesting site for woodpeckers, and - perhaps predictably - the nest hole is exactly at the point where the tree snapped in a storm last year, which means it probably chose it because it was soft there and maybe weakened it itself some more to the point of breaking.
As for the photographic side, alterations are mono (using channels), sharpened (using high pass and soft light setting) and smart blur to remove a little noise.
