Well, here's my two cents. :)
It does appear to be slightly out of focus... but I know from experience how difficult it is to photograph a cat - mine simlpy DOES NOT WANT TO SIT STILL! I love the lighting here - I think the shadow on the cat's face is very interesting! One thing that I've found to do is really neat, is to try and get the other eye to stand out from the shadows. Like this image:
Not sure if it's possible though - if the shadow was over the face like that in the original, it might be impossible to bring out the detail. But if you purposely burned the shadow, you might be able to go back to the original and do something. Just a little idea. :) Excellent photo, and what a sweet kitty!

3 - Background not enhancing Mimbi, but mainly it is Mimbi's left eye - like this just makes a 'weird' image. Sharper and variation in composition/framing, likely have helped. |

The fade from light to dark seems a bit unnatural, a bit more DOF would have been nice to have focus on his nose. |

This is an amazing portrait! I believe you have photographed the true nature of a cat...the side they let you see & everything else! (At least that's every cat I've ever known.) :} |

This might be more interesting if the shadowed area were completely black. The little bit of detail is a bit distracting. And the gaping eyehole is creepy. |

Pretty cat, reminds me of one of my girls. I like what you were trying to accomplish with the lighting although it might be a tad too bright on the left side. The shot is out of focus too much, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. The eye is almost in focus and the rest is totally out of focus. I would have preferred a very sharp eye and focused face.....but that's just me! Good luck in the challenge. |

not very sharp and the dark shadow on the right side of the face isn't flattering ... |

The colors and the sharp details in this cat portrait are all there EXCEPT we only see half the face! The other half is totally lost in shadow - even the eye, the pink of the right half of the nose and the normally pink shade of the inner ear on the right hand side are all lost to shadow. Sometimes a face/portrait that is half in shadow can add drama and interest to a photo's appeal but there is no shadow of mystery/drama in this shot. Lighting and the straight on eye level angle of the shot make it a standard portrait shot where one expects to see the full details of the face in full. Better illumination of the right half of the cat's face would improve the appeal of the photo because the viewer will be more able to fully appreciate the cat's portrait. |

what a bizarre photo. I think a more centered composition would work better, reminiscent of Andy Warhol. 7 |

like the lighting but the focus is softer than I like for this type of portrait - i want to see more detail in the whiskers, etc. |
