this is the first half face cropped photo i see in this challenge and i love it.
the overall black coloring, the down looking cat and her closed eyes imply a mysterious and sort of a sad feeling to the photo, which i really like.
well done, it's one of my favorites in this challenge. 10

I'm not getting much on my monitor (too dark), if there is a persistant amount of commentors saying the same thing you may need to calibrate your monitor. Help section in Windows can help. I do like the idea alot, and I wish I could see that outline more.

Oh! Niiice. Maybe you should lighten up the nose eye a little bit, now they are hard to see and the hair inside the ear take to much attention.
One of the best so far.

A little to dark

5 - Like the concept, but either much more detail and sharpness captured, or else (and primarily for this Challenge), more features discernible - mainly eyes.

this one's too dark on my monitor. i can make out a whisker and some ear hair but i can't tell if it's a cat or a bunny or what.

You really pushed the limit of monitor calibration on this. The thing I don't care much for is the lit area above the cats head otherwise it's pretty nice..

What a unique perspective/composition. Before reading the title, I felt it as 'peaceful'...but I guess grim works too. Nicely done!

Really nice shot -- I like how you've kept the textures even when working with dark tones!

interesting.... this could either bomb or shine... very different approach (which is a good thing amongst so
many 'standard' cat poses..)

Maybe not cropping the ear might have improved the composition and blending out the fur highlights on the left to really isolate the half face... I like the subtle approach... nice work...

I can see that it is a black cat but on my monitor, it looks very dark and a lot of detail is lost. It would be interesting to see what this photo looks like a little lighter.

I really like images like this. While maybe not a ribbon winner in this challenge it is still strong. Bumping up to 8 and adding to my faves.

Like the idea. Too dark on my screen?

You took a chance with this black on black portrait.
To me, in any event, it worked. The modeling is just
lovely on this cat.
Unfortunately, you may be at the mercy of monitors that
are not perfectly calibrated. I hope not.

I can make out very few details of the face. I can barely see the nose, there is no eye (I am going to assume that this is a sleeping cat) and the head is vaguely outlined by the sheen of the hairs picking up the lighting. Mayhap it might be that the monitor calibration is the culprit or upping the gamma or brightness & contrast might help the cat be more visible. Having a black cat on a black background is very challenging because you don't have contrasting colors. Thus lighting becomes very important. Mayhap you needed a stronger light or another light to illuminate the left half of the cat's face seen here so that the viewer could greater appreciate the features of this sleeping cat.

Really artsy shot! Love the composition. I'm wondering if since this was an advanced editing challenge, if you could have selected the head, copied and pasted it onto a separate layer and just sort of lightened that portion a bit and played with the saturation, or perhaps, color, it might have brought the face out a bit more??? The way it sits now, it seems to blend in so much that you really have to look to see the separations. I like your view on this shot though. Really artsy look. Would make a GREAT painting!!!

Like the minimalist idea, but it looks like there is some crusty stuff coming out from the eye which I really want to wipe off! I'd also like the whiskers and eyelashes highlighted a bit more.

I like the abstract form of the cat's cheek and ear. tones are a bit drab - I'd like to see darker areas in the shadows of the fur.
