 The Hanseatic cities prospered by their merchants. Cloths from India and silk from China were imported with their ships who brought these goods inland on the Weser River. Horse and wagon completed the transport from shore to store.

These wide doors are plentyful in the town of Lemgo. Originally intended to accommodate horse and wagon, they now house bicycles, baby strollers or the family car.
