Got a new Rebel XTi for Christmas! I was wandering around in my parents backyard shooting all kinds of things with the 50mm 1.8 just checking out the super shallow DOF. This is a random bush with a few leaves left on it. I tried out some new (to me) techniques in Photoshop on this one.

Shot in RAW: adjusted exposure and white balance

PS:
Crop
NI
Hue/Sat (with a gradient mask) to shift toward red
Hue/Sat - overall sat boost
Curves
Gradient Fill adjustment layer in soft light mode to add more red coming in from the top left
Selective Color to blacken the blacks

Greetings from the CC!

This is an interesting subject, which his suffering from a lack of focus. There is nothing that draws the viewers eye. The colors are very nice, but the focus is just not there. When you are thinking about how to take a photo of a given subject, think about what you want the final shot to look like. Don't just point your camera at an interesting subject and shoot. Be deliberate.

Keep shooting,

Mark

I don't see the leaves more like branch's but it is an interesting capture.

The colours are pleasing however the infocus branches blend a little too much with the OOF ones making the image seem very cluttered.
