You might want to try this in black and white. the color isn't giving you anything and it makes the blown highlights look accidental. |

Because the light is shining on the front of the statue, I want to see that side of it. So this image frustrates me. I also think this is not a good choice for the the "Centered" challenge. To me this is a good example of why the Rule of Thirds is significant. The pedestal and statue cut the image in half (big no no).
For the Centered challenge, I think some Photoshop work could improve this image. First I would crop the bottom to bring the statue's head to the center. That would also reduce the line that cuts the image in half vertically. I'd also work on color, saturation, and contrast. The highlights may be blown out on the pedestal, but if possible, the details of the design should be visible. Finally I'd do whatever possible to sharpen the image, USM or High Pass. It can't make up for the original soft focus, but it could improve it a bit.
P.S. Crop a little from the right side too. There is a gray object there that is distracting.

Chris,
I think a couple of things would have hurt you on this one. First, soft focus. Second, a lot going on in the photo - eyes bounce around and since there's a lot of hard light and shadow on angel, it is hard to find a place to zero in on, if that makes sense...Would love to see this as a retake in morning or late afternoon light from a few different angles. Cheers! |

I think the focus is a little to soft on this one. I do like the angle the building is at in relation to the statue though. |
