Popcorn is my FAVORITE food.
Staged this in my little homemade cardboard lightbox. I suspended one piece of popcorn above the box with a red thread. I moved another piece of popcorn (also strung on a thread) in a downward motion, starting from behind the suspended piece. No one in my house really wanted to help me with this (can't blame them), so I used the timer on my camera. It was quite difficult to get the lighting right with the long shutter speed, without blowing out the highlights on the popcorn.
This probably won't do as well as my plate of macaroni entry, but I wanted to see if I could pull this off. This was the best of about 100 shots.
Post-processing: rotate to straighten box, selective adjustments in levels, shadows/highlights, sharpen, crop, brightness/contrast, hue/saturation, added a background layer with a gradient set to slightly darken the upper region, cloned out a few specks in the background as well the red thread used to suspend the popcorn, dodge/burn, a couple of light passes of USM, reduce file size, add border, save for web. |
