 I took this from the ferris wheel at Ocean Park in HK. I used my wife's compact digiacam and am really kicking myself for not having my DSLR with me, because I think it could have come out much better. Unfortunately the boat was so off center I had to crop out most of the image to get it centered. The original is more impressive. Anyway, this is what I had left. It's worth a shot.

Crop, rotate, resize, curves, and cloned out some dirt on the lens.

Hmm - I think they haze is a big drawback to this image. You might could use levels to help, but it's difficult to recover in such a situation.

the blown highlights in the water are hard to look at ... my eye gets drawn to the upper left corner to avoid them ...

too desaturated/overexposed - did you use a lens hood?
