This certainly has it's place in the family album. Nice shot of Grandpa. As a portrait in the type being looked for in the challenge, its' not quite there technically. Mostly the lighting is too harsh IMO, and overall it's a little soft (or perhaps it appears soft around his eyes because of the way they seem to be squinting). All JMO of course. :D Good luck in the challenge.

Proud Grandpa has his eyes shut, you cut his ears of, there is a weird shadow right below and the background is a bit messy. None of these are serious crimes ofcourse, but together they don't yield a pretty picture.

I think the eyes should have been open for this style portrait.

Ok, there is a raging debte about people's voting habits at the moment, so i will attempt to give a detailed comment with my vote:

NOt very sharp is it? The lighting is very flat. direct flash is not a good thing to use when taking protrait of people. Also the capture isn't great. His eyes are closed because of the flash....had it been sharp it coul have been a 5, but i m going to haveto go with 4. sorry.

Nice composition, but the backround is distracting.

The background isn't really helping here. You should try zooming out and showing more of his enviroment which may help say something about him or shoot him with a more uniform background that doesn't compete for attention. Just my opinion though.
