I stayed at home one friday night (that never happens) and looked at my desk, and got this idea. Luckily, i borrowed my boss' Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 lens, for my 18-55mm 2.8 siggy is in the shop getting repaired :(
anyways, i've been chit-chatting with larus back and forth, and by the way, he's a hilarious guy. trips me out. this is my somewhat comical tribute to him :P look closely...there's quite a few things on there that i use on a daily basis, the handcuffs not being one of them. :D :D :D those were for a challenge that i missed the deadline for. susi, there should be something of yours in there too ;)
i did a LOT of post processing on this image:
raw conversion
cloning background
high pass filter on its own layer
another high pass filter on another layer on top, w/ 20% opacity
this created a halo around everything on the top, so i cloned/healing brushed for about 2 hours getting is as smooth as i possibly could.
for the record, the text on the screen, along w/ the pacifier outline, were all drawn in photoshop and were actually on my screen for my desktop background. thought it added a little humor, to an already humorous challenge :D
i thought about taking out the shadows on the monitor and light/gumball machine, but i decided not to. it makes it look like the somewhat harsh setting i was trying to go for.
here and there, after my many layers adjustments, i threw in some contrast work, probably 4 or 5 different ones in all. i was going for a high key, but yet really subdued.
after all this, i added a white then black border using canvas size
resized to long side 640
used about 45% smartsharpen
save for web
submit.
i hope this does well...only thing i can see that will be nit picked is the possible blow outs (which i like, adds ruggedness to me) and the shadows behind the monitor, etc.
this entry was just for fun..i really doubt it will do good. i just hope it gets a few laughs :D it'd be nice to get a 6+ score, for this, along with my Best of 2006 (which if it doesn't get a 6+ i'll be VERY surprised) will put all my visible challenge entries on my portfolio at a 6+ or greater. :D
good luck to everyone on this.

ok ok, this was for fun. i was not trying to get a 10 from larus. :P i should have just left that off the screen. sorry if it offended, but i really didn't care for score on this one. i was just after a few laughs.

lol. One of the better "cluttered" shots in the challenge. Nice contrast. (Not a bad lookin' lens, either). 8 |

This is just a great shot. Love the composition. And isn't he all of our heros. Only thing that kind of caught my attention was a slight glare on the bottom right corner, didn't know if it was flash or fill lighting. Still a great setup and idea. Nice work. |

Perfectly normal feelings for a person such as yourself. j/k I like it second only to the cluttered shop/garage shot. |

This seems like a really, really cheap way to get by the "no text" rule, as well as get someone (possibly your?) username into the photo. |
