 I really wanted to submit something for this challenge, so I asked Ross, a friend of mine, if he would mind posing for me. He has great features for a portrait, including huge hands! He agreed, but the only time we could get together was at night in front of a strip mall. It was 24 deg F, and was my first attempt at portrait work in the dark. I used a remote SB800 .7 stop under, camera left, D200 on-board flash at 1 stop under and a silver reflector on his right side. I processed it intentionally dark to get the mysterious look.

Where's is the justice? 44th? In my opinion it should have at least ranked in the Top 10. Love the cigarette, the grit, the eyes. Very well done.

Great detail, great range of tones, the cigarette gives it a little 'life' and helps nudge it up past a traditional studio shot- I think that's what you have to do to ribbon- you have to take a chance and try something a little different.

Oh, I like this one. I got quite a few slams on one of my pictures of a lady and a cigarette. . .I hope you are not because this is very well done. A lot of "story" here! Good luck!

Great tones! I find myself looking for a true white somewhere in the image, maybe in his eyes? I love the skin tone.. great job!
