I took this shot 1/8/07 (today as I type), and obviously fooled with the highlights. I would love to ask "you all" how to make the colors stand out without giving it too fake of an appearance, as I'm afraid this one does. Everything there was really there tonight, I just brought the colors out. So, if you can help me utilize the best tool in CS2, I have to be missing something... thanks!

One way to do quasi-selective saturation adjustment is by using the Curvemeister plug-in:

//www.curvemeister.com/

It includes a Hue-Saturation-Brightness (HSB) mode where you can adjust the saturation curve. For example, you might want to increase saturation on the less saturated parts while leaving the already saturated parts alone. Or vice-versa. Try playing around with the curves and see what you get.

Using selective colours might help. I also work within channels, adjusting colours for each channel separately, and that might work for this kind of image. You could also try using hue/sat/lightness in an adjustment layer (either for the whole image or for one/more of the channels). It's alway very difficult to tell what would work with someone else's image.

The strong colours are quite beautiful, although the yellows of the rocks above look a bit overdone, and the sky looks a bit fakey (especially because of the halo around the edges by the rocks).

I like the gold colours here, maybe the sky is a little blue for some but I enjoy vibrant colours. I would like to see it cropped at the top just below the ridge, just a opinion but still a very nice shot.

I actually like the surrealistic look. I would be interested in what you do after you play around with the selective saturation.

"how to make the colors stand out without giving it too fake of an appearance"

Go to your photoshop and stroll down to Image --> Ajust --> Hue/Saturation. Now you can selectively adjust each color
or desaturate them. OR You stroll down further to Adjust --> Selective color and do the same. Play around with them some.
Have fun !

Beautiful picture - I really like the light and colours. I think I would crop it a little tighter in the top though, but that's just a minor issue - the overall impression is very good.

I'm hoping by commenting on myself, I can get more people to read what I wrote above. Thanks in advance for your help!
