Challenge: Black and White Portrait II (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Location: Home
Date: Jan 7, 2007
Aperture: F/5.6
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Portraiture, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jan 9, 2007

Shot on white background with external flash bouncing of the roof. Post processing involved adjusting curves slightly, sharpened (not too much as i wanted that soft feel that portraits have) and then a bit of dodge and burn on some shadow. Finally turned it to B&W.

great capture. I think the border is a bit distracting though, it detracts from the image.

the tones between his shirt, neck and facse are a bit too extremem for me. if a darker shirt was worn eg red, black, brown, it would have brought out the face a lot stronger. just my opinoin. otherwise very good. 6

softness as title eh? So i assume the softness of the photograph is purposeful to perhaps show he's a nice soft guy? can buy that. I personally prefer sharp portraits, but that doesn't mean that what you tried to achieve here is less worth.

I like his neutral expression and the head tilt. Looks like a nice kid ;)
