try moving your subject away from the wall to get less shadowing

flash shadow!

disturbed by the shadow...

This almost reminds me of a time when one accidentally takes a pic. The lighting and shadows really detracts from your main subject.

Lots of tough, artistic competition, this time around, and this very "snap-shot" image just doesn't cut it.

You've been using that awfull onboard flash. Look wat it does to your picture: a shiny face and ugly shadows. Not a nice sight (3)

... focus ...

blown highlight on her cheek and harsh shadow really hurt this

A good idea and composition, but the lighting is very harsh. See how it is so strong on her cheek at the right, but drops off drastically, then darkness and a very harsh shadow? It looks like that is quite possibly an on board flash. If so, diffusing it could make a considerable difference.

the shadow is very distracting

Miss the main point

the flash is too harsh and the point of view is unflattering...sorry :-(
