Most probably think I am outgoing, but I am really shy down deep. Hated doing this because it's a self portrait. Many struggle with this, I am sure.

Maybe I'll get a model someday that doesn't have fur or feathers. :)

I was itching to try portrait photography. Hope to learn from this if I am lucky enough to get comments in this large challenge.

Set up a black background near a window for light on one side and set up a regular floor lamp on the other side pointing down at me.

Don't expect this to do very well with all the beauties out there with portrait experience.

PP: Adjusted contrast, dodged and burned, cloned out small imperfections, sharpened, then blurred a tiny bit. Used the channel mixer method to get to black and white. Ran Noise Ninja.

OK I really suck at portraits. After I stop beating myself up about it I may try it again someday.

Thanks for the constructive and nice comments that a few of you left. I did learn about focus.

You know, for someone who is shy, the focus is exactly right for this.

Very good portrait. Nice focus on the eye. Lighting isn't to harsh either.

DOF is too shallow in my opinion ... the left eye is in focus but the right eye isn't

Shy......almost out of the camera range????? *wink* The focus is really off on the side and perhaps, what you were going for in the first place, but just doesn't give this shot its just dues by the blurring.

I dislike seeing the focus on the hair in sted of the eyes. But nicely composed.

I like how the hair being in focus and the face not so much in focus kind of reflects the "shy" aspect.

like the use of 1/3's and the pose, but I am not crazy about the focus

This is an absolutely wonderful B/W photo. I love the fact it is not the typical beautiful woman with flawless skin and it is not a really weathered face. You are somewhere in between which is a pleasant change. The composition is very nice and I like how the hair frames your face. You do look shy so the title is perfect. The focus on the one eye is a nice crisp focus. Probably should have the other eye/face in focus too but it is not distracting and does not take away from the photo. As for the lighting WOW! It really makes your hair stand out from the black background. Great job and I hope you do well.

dof is too shallow for my liking the soft/out of focus area of her makes one eye too strongly in focus. if it was a blur you applyed to the photo an all over soft look would have appealed to me more. well done on the lighting and a good portrait.7
