Critique Club Review:
To my eye, the recorder leads the eye down and the music leads the eye up. I do like the way you resisted the temptation to run the music and the instrumet in parallel lines. This way the music seems to wrap itself around the instrument, giving a much greater visual interest as it makes the two become one. The frame really works in this picture. All too often a frame is there for the sake of having a frame. Here the color of the frame really makes this picture pop.
About the only other negative comment I have, and it is very minor indeed is that the recorder goes a bit soft at the upper end of the picture. Perhaps an f-stop adjustment would help with the depth of field.
The picture is very well lighted, more would have been less here. The contrast and saturation are simply excellent. This would make a very nice art print, especially for a music lover or classroom.
Congratulations on a very fine picture.

I'm not sure why I gave this a four. I think I didn't like the black background at first. I look at it now and see that it's full of detail. It would have been better had you zoomed in more, and possibly projected the notes onto the flute. I don't know, maybe you did that, but it's not apparent. You get a 6. |

Interesting lighting (with it's yellow colour) and nice composition. Music pattern on recorder looks good against black background. |

Bravo! I'm guessing you used a projector... now I want one for all my instrument shots! I really would have prefered the top-left to bottom-right diagonal though, the one you chose always seems to jar with me. I think the border needs to be a bit more subtle... a good border never draws attention away from what it's framing IMO.The hue is just a little too yellow-orange for my taste, and looks just a little like the wrong white balance was used. However, I love this photo... and now desperately want to copy it! 9 |

Not sure how this was done but I like it. The wood tones on the recorder (I'm not a musical instrument expert) are nice and warm and very appealing to me. The diagonal composition is great. The overlayed musical notes adds a nice dimension and completes the 'package' the image presents. The matching border is good, although I'm almost tempted to say a little too bright - a duller yellow picked from the darker yellow area of the recorder may have been better. |

Creative and very well done, although I don't particularly care for it. |

Very interesting subject. Like the compostion, it leads your eyes from top to bottom. The colors on the instrument is very nice. I like how the subject looks with the unique musical notes on it. Almost looks like tattoos. The black background really helps to make the subject stand out. "10" |

Very elegant display of an elegant object - it\'s the lighting and golden color that does it. Top score this week. |

Well since it has been validated, you must let me know how you did this; Unless the music is actually on the recorder, please do. Great comp and colors. The framing is the color color but you could have done with out it. Great overall shot. |
