Challenge: Motion Panning II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S9500
Location: Hampton Beach, Vic

This was taken at about 5pm with a low sun. Wind at around 15 knots and coming from S/SW. Cross/Onshore conditions meant I was shooting straight into the sun to get a side on shot.

I was using a polarising filter to reduce glare, but it was a very bright day... I had a lot of fun taking shots for this challenge... Most very blurry!

I am happy with the exposure of the shot, and like the texture the blurred reflections have given me (but I guess I'm going to get plenty of over-exposure comments). The shot is pretty much full frame, and I would have liked to have the option to play with the crop.

Good image, with reasonable clarity given the circumstances, but it's hard to get motion panning with water as a background, and while I know the waterskier here is in motion, I don't get a feeling of motion from the photo. The water at his feet is also very bright, though honestly I'm not sure you could have done anything about that.

you got the idea, just need a bit more background blur and a bit more sharpness on the subject.

This one looks more like stopped motion than panned motion to me.

On a scale of 0-2 in five different categories: Image quality - .5. Composition - .5. Lighting - .5 (whites are too blown out IMO). Post Processing - .5 (could have toned down the whites a bit in post). Choice of Subject - 1.5. TOTAL SCORE - 4

Overexposure of image causes a real problem with blown highlights vying for attention loss of contrast in subject. Slightly off track, causing a minor feeling of out of focus rather than stop motion. Lots of challenges in this capture that really need strong panning/tracking and perfect exposure.

The photo is great, but it isnt exactly panning. The exposure time was too short.

You should slow your shutter speed down a tad for a little more backround blur
