Welcome to DPC from the Critique Club, and your first submission to challenges. I have a couple of suggestions for you on your image that might help you with future challenges. First off your subject seems a bit soft then sharpened up a bit, you have lost detail in the birds feathers. I'd suggest with the lens your using to stop it down a bit for a sharper image and bump the ISO up a bit to keep your shutter speed. You also appear to have some CA in the high contrast area in the lower left. Since this was advanced editing that could have been fixed in processing. Your placement of the subject is pretty good. Good luck in future challenges.

Oh yes. . .I DO enjoy :) You really nailed the eye contact! I have a feeling if this was just a taaaadddd less exposed, you would have had a very high finisher here! Great job!

Perhaps a little too much contrast or sharpening since the texture/light on the rock seems a little much, at least in balance with the blurred background. I dont think the negative space at the top of the image really help overall and cropping it out puts more emphasis back on the bird. Additionally without the blurred background the texture of the rock is no longer competing with the bird and they seem to blend well together.
