hands are directly scanned in. so lmany layers in this it's not real.
late late late...
i had this idea in my head the whole week, but only started shooting it an hour before the deadline. i had scanned the hands in during the week, so just had to do the putting together. the idea for this came from a mixed media piece i did all those years ago in art college. that one was charcoal, photocopies, paint, and pastel, but similar in spirit. frankly, i think the original was more successful, but this is really only experimenting. plus, i had 45 minutes to edit and submit.
so, it's the kind of stuff i might do again, but i think really i'm more interested in less obvious manipulation. however, it's a good learning exerciese, so i'm sure i'll keep entering the expert editing.
thanks for the comments, all very helpful. |

excellent idea Christian, your scanned series is all excellent.
I didn't vote here and I didn't know the fingers were scanned but there's something exciting about them: some look like x-rays while others are almost normal. something weird and very disturbing about it, ans the title is excellent.
this is something that definitely stays in mind for a very very long time. I've been thinking about it a lot since i saw it first time and decided to write a comment only now.
I don't feel like I understand it completely - and it's great. what a deep and clever idea! |

I like this a lot and gave it a 10. I could tell that the hands had been scanned, but some of the fingers actually looked like x-rays. It's a really cool creation. I like the theme and the great colors. You seem imprisoned by your identity. Interesting! |

I like this image. It has that late emerging pop art style. The fingers really bring together the image. I like the colors here. This is one of the best uses of "expert editing" and for that alone should have been scored higher. I like the overall tone of the image here, almost a seductive look embodied with a flash of fury. Wonderful photo. |

Christian - I like how some of the fingers look like fingers, and others like skeleton hands. This is a very interesting idea, with cool colors. The composition could be a bit stronger - I read from your comments that you threw it together at the last minute (pretty impressive for a one hour effort). Hope you'll do it again and post in your portfolio. |

I like that those oppressive criss-crossing lines are actually fingers. 7 |

Looks too much like a graphic rather than a photo. Sorry. Good luck. |

I appreciate that you've gone to a lot of effort on this image. Not my cup of tea though - perhaps a bit too much post processing. |

This is very strong, nice piece of work. It goes way beyond the "photographic", of course. How will the voters treat it? I'll be looking in a week :-) |
